Tuesdays With Dorie - Devils Food White Out Cake

I haven't been a part of Tuesdays With Dorie for very long, and I've only had the book since i joined the group.  I have always thought the cake on the cover looks fantastic, and I couldn't wait to make it.

Well thankfully i don't have to wait anymore as Stephanie from Confessions of a City Eater picked it for this weeks challenge.  Hurrah!

I had thought of halving the recipe and using my 4 inch springform pans, again, but decided to make the full recipe.  I still used the 4 inch pans and made cupcakes with the leftover batter.  The only change i made to the recipe was to add white chocolate chips at the end instead of milk chocolate.

This has been a good week for me, bakingwise.  The cake and the icing came out beautifully.  It looks and tastes fantastic.  The only thing i don't really like is the slight metallic aftertaste from the icing, but has that stopped me eating it......No!

So thank you Stephanie for this weeks pick, great choice :)

Oh and thanks are also due to my husband, Eric, who took the photos.

Ha! I'm the same way. I kind of complained about the metallic cream of tartar taste, but then proceeded to eat huge slices without any problem!

Do I count FOUR layers in your mini? Fantastic! Love the cupcakes with the little hearts, too. Love this cake (I didn't notice the aftertaste; probably too busy hoovering it down!)

I noticed the same thing about the aftertaste, I thought it might have been because I used too much cream of tartar.
Yours look delish!

Oh, yours looks picture perfect! I love seeing how people use different size pans, make different shapes, etc., so inspiring as I am not at all creative! Your cupcakes are so darling with that red in the middle that really stands out. Great job! Thanks for stopping by my blog...it is always great to meet new TWD members.

You cake looks beautful! I thought it was really fun to make, although the icing was kind of stressful! Glad you enjoyed it even with that slightly metallic taste :-)

It's a shame about the metallic taste. I hope it was better the next day, as mine was. It looks great, though, and I love those cupcakes!
